Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jennifer Tai.
Hi Dr. Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As with all stories, there are so many iterations—so many deaths and rebirths—that guide us to the here and now. All paths have led to here, and it is not by coincidence that we find each other in this time & space together. This latest iteration of life has been a most magnificent one for me, so thank you for being here as witness. Here’s my story.
I’m a daughter of refugee parents who fled their home country nearly 40 years ago during a time of great turmoil and conflict. Growing up, I watched my parents work incredibly hard to cultivate a safe, beautiful, and loving community for our family to grow, heal, and thrive in. They are my biggest inspiration, and also a big influence to my values, ethics, and outlook in life.
In choosing my career path, as any “good” eldest daughter of immigrants would do, I decided to pursue a financially impressive and stable career in investment management and banking. Although my experience in the corporate world offered beautiful insight and perspective, the work itself did not align with my spirit. I stayed too long in an environment which didn’t align, leading to the accumulation of disharmony, stagnation, and dis-ease throughout my entire energetic system.
Called by a desperate need to find more healing & coherence in life, I transitioned from my early career in investment management to pursue more aligned work and purpose.
Whilst on the expansive path to here and now, I embarked upon years of training and practice in masterful lineage traditions, some of which include: healing emphasis yoga therapy, partner acrobatics, music, the Akashic Records, and Quantum Healing Hypnotherapy—all intuitive techniques which I continue to cultivate and weave throughout my life and my current work as a Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese medicine practitioner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge (and gift) in this particular phase of life has been becoming a mama while simultaneously expanding in my life’s work as a Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine.
During my doctoral program, after 4 intensive years of focused study, I walked the stage at 36 weeks pregnant to receive my diploma, then delivered my baby just a couple of weeks later!
Navigating life as a working mom is certainly not for the faint of heart. It’s such a nuanced and layered experience which requires immense devotion—to my work with patients, yes—but especially to my own tiny human who seems to demand the whole world at times.
It’s a constant push and pull, a constant test of patience, character, tenderness, and tenacity all at once. And I’m grateful for it all.
The path to becoming mama was not quite straightforward for me (a profound obstacle of my previous chapter of life), which is likely why I’m so grateful to have this immense opportunity to live out BOTH of my life’s purpose as mother and as Chinese medicine practitioner. I do not take it for granted.
Faced with a physical history of complex uterine fibroids, which led to several blood transfusions, hospital visits, uterine surgery & planned cesarean delivery—as well as nuanced navigation of all things related to fertility, pregnancy, postpartum & beyond—I have come to have a very direct and personal interest in working with all who are on the tender path to healing & loving the Sacred Womb, and especially with those who are powerfully calling in the consciousness of Mother.
It can be a bumpy road out there at times, but I’m so thankful for guides and loved ones who’ve held me through it all. Such is the magic of life, and I’m proud and happy to be here. It’s a privilege to be of service to those who seek a helping hand in this journey we call life.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a board-licensed Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioner, I specialize in Classical Five Element Acupuncture in San Diego—helping patients realign with their highest expression of self, guiding deep emotional balance alongside physical healing.
Classical Five Element Acupuncture is profound in that it treats at the Spirit level—the deepest aspect of our energetic bodies. When disharmony manifests, it can be rooted in any layer of body—spirit, mental or physical. Drawing the healing request from our deepest layer of self allows for a completeness in healing that is much more profound than just symptom management. Those who experience Classical Five Element Acupuncture tend to state that they notice a stark difference in the results of the treatment. Not only are the results seemingly longer lasting for many, but the treatment itself focuses on healing at the deepest layer of self, of truth—leading to greater clarity, connection, and alignment in life.
I have found that my work with Classical Five Element Acupuncture has been particularly supportive in helping patients through life’s biggest transitions: nuanced fertility & conception planning, postpartum & matrescence support, new or difficult medical diagnoses, navigating chronic nervous system dysregulation, anxiety & depression, and much more.

All of my in-person treatments take place at Everwell, and I’m so proud to be part of a bigger mission as we continue to anchor and shape the future of integrative medicine, health, and wellness in our communities.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
In college, I was selected as homecoming queen during my senior year as well as the convocation speaker at my graduation.
I also used to compete in figure skating! Side note: people used to comment on how I looked (physical looks, not at all skating skill) like Michelle Kwan. I’ll take it! 🙂
And, I also played classical violin and piano for 15 years and almost majored in music performance.
